I contacted City Hall about this only to learn that they had already implemented that particular ordinance. I was glad to see it as well. On Mark Belling's radio show, he said that it was merely a 'symbolic' gesture that doesn't really do anything. I don't know if that's true or not. I'd advise you to contact Staskunas and Sullivan (if that's who your reps are) to tell them about the disasterous effects on the local economy a similar referendum in WA would have. See if they come up with any way to change state law to prevent a repeat of what happened in Milwaukee in November. Sullivan & Staskunas don't seem to want to start a dialog with me on certain topics that I bring up to them. Both of those guys are lawyers, so you'd think that they'd be conversant with what legislation needs to be implemented more than I would be (a non-lawyer). Maybe you'll have better luck.

I have a hunch if you send Sullivan a few 'dead presidents', you might get his attention. I haven't tried that method yet and that might explain why he doesn't answer MY specific questions. It's just a hunch. He IS a Democrat, after all...

Now to get the city to institute one side of street parking (snow emergency) when a certain amount of snow is on the ground would be great. Just yesterday as I walked back from my son's school, the school bus had to park 2 blocks down because the parents parked up both sides and it couldnt fit down the street. What if that was a fire truck or ambulance?

And on one other note, I have to commend the common council about that ordinance on sick pay, hopefully preventing what is happening in milwaukee.

WaveFan - Because of the weather (and the fact that My-Sugar-Na decided to snowblow our entire driveway - people, I was soliciting cheap plowing earlier - her back was hurting pretty bad and we decided not to go to this past weekend's game. I agree about the short season, I remember the 44-game seasons compared to this season's 20-game schedule, but indoor soccer is a money loser, so the thought is that playing a dozen less home games will allow the marketing staffs to really market the existing games (thereby making more revenue per game). We'll see if it works.

Rufus King has always been MPS's most demanding school for the college bound. As an MPS school it boasts the highest college-attendance rates in the state.

Despite popular belief, MPS has many "Gems," but as in any situation, it's up to the caring, involved parent to find them. Mitten's sister will be attending another one of MPS's "Gems" in the fall (Lincoln Center of the Arts). I'm proud of my children, their abilities, talents and accomplishments and believe that the MPS schools that have been carefully chosen for them and by them support them in ways that many suburban schools could not.

Fast forward to today... I saw him outside clearing his driveway and I walked over there to remind him to pull his cars in his driveway as soon as he was done clearing it. I told him that the snow plow drivers can do a much better job on the road if you (my neighbor) didn't park in the road. He said, "Sure". Did he REALLY listen to me? Hell, no! He was nowhere to be found after he cleared his driveway when the plow come by and box his car in. Did I be a good neighbor and help him push his car out of the mound of snow caused by the snow plow? Hell, no! Experience is the best teacher and I hope he learned his lesson, but I doubt it.

My cars were NEVER parked in the street during this snowfall today. I did part of my driveway, moved the cars around a bit, and then did the other parts. It really wasn't that tough to figure out. Darwin might have his sights set on this neighbor of mine as well as some of the stupid drivers out there. Unbelievable.
