This is truly a rarity

By Michael James

This is one of the very few blog entries in which I am soliciting comments.

Fact:  Michael Phelps signed an endorsement deal with Frosted Flakes.

Good or bad?  And why?

Good. Olympians have a very narrow window of time for endorsement deals, they have to take them when the come. You will never know when your "time" is up and you can not compete anymore. Just because he is making money now won't mean he will in 10 years.

Unless Michael Phelps is passing some of his $$$ my way, I could care less.. :)

I hear Nike paid high school student LeBron James millions of dollars a couple of years ago, BEFORE he started playing pro.. what a mistake!!!!  Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what I heard..

Remember Mary Lou Retton on the Wheaties boxes? I saw an interview with Phelps, he's buying a house too with his $40 million in endorsements from Speedo. Let's hope that he's as wise in the ways of finances as he is in swimming. It doesn't make any difference to me as long as he continues to be a good role model for other young people. Maybe he can get more "water scairdy cats" like me into the water and learn to swim.

Who really cares. It is the norm today. The best athletes in their sport get great endorsments deals. Big whoop. What we should be worried about is who the cop is that shot a man dead on 83rd and lincoln.

Mary Ann I agree! I hope he gets a good financial advisor and realizes what a great role model he can be for kids!

PS Was their another shooting on 83rd st other than the suicide by cop where the guy had a gun that was pointing around at people??

Let the athletes make all the money they can. He is a the top (or very close) of his game. Why shouldn't he make the money...

JON J must really have an axe to grind with the cops for him to neglect that subtle detail of the story about the 83rd & Lincoln shooting. JON, please tell us if that's the same story (suicide by cop) you're referring to in which you're seemingly trying to blame the cops for doing their job. Back to the topic... I don't particularly care if any of the Olympians cash in. I never was one to buy something just because somebody famous says it's good. I'll buy it because it's a good value. Kellogs Corn Flakes are very good, but the Roundy's generic Corn Flakes are just fine as well, but I'm not paying extra simply for a picture of Phelps on the box. Now, GET OFF MY LAWN! ;)

Nope no axe to grind. It just bothers me when this happens and I am sure it was a legit shooting but all the Dept. does is move the unnamed officer to desk duty until further notice. It looks bad, like they are covering something up, instead of coming out and saying who and what exactly happened. I could give a damn if the shoot all the crazies, if it is justified let the people who pay the salaries know and let it serve as warnings to all the trash and crazies that are running around our streets. Now while I am here I think I will pee on your lawn. Bye.

PS they should of went in with guns a blazin on Lee Parker, but unfortunately they let him get away.

I think I agree with you, Jon. If that a nutcase like that was in my neighborhood waving his pistol around, I'd hope that any WAPD cop that responded would empty his magazine into the psycho's chest and head. That cop would be doing a genuine public service to the law-abiding community by preventing a nutcase like this from doing it again and possibly killing an innocent person the NEXT time. But then again, if that nutcase put one foot on MY property while he was waving his pistol around, the WAPD wouldn't need to rush to the scene (if you know what I mean). Speaking of which, I hadn't heard anything about Joe Horn NOT being convicted of manslaughter until I just looked it up on the Internet. Based on the amount of wall-to-wall coverage this case got when it first happened, I would have expected some MSM news media outlet to give the same type of coverage during the court proceedings. I'd love to have a hero like Joe Horn living next to me. Now that he's a free man, maybe he'll move to West Allis??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Horn_shooting_controversy I admit that this post is TOTALLY off-topic, but I doubt many people will read it since MJ has moved on with newer posts. Now, GET OFF MY LAWN! ;)
